Databases & Registries

Knowing how to fact check and find information is also vital. Not every source online is credible. Some are even scams. There are many registries at state and even local levels. Here at ScaleSafe Blacklist we cross check multiple databases, as well as look for news articles, or first hand sources from survivors or witnesses.

One of the first databases we check is Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website. It is one of the first resources on the FBI's website. It checks many other databases nationwide, so you don't have to check individually. It allows you to check by name, or by area/zip code.

False Reports or Baseless Reports?

There is a common misconception that a large or even moderate percentage of sexual assault reports are false. Many studies have found that somewhere between 2-10% of reports are false. If you know of somebody that's been reported for sexual assault, keep that in mind. People often consider baseless reports to be included in false reports, but there's a distinct difference. False reports are just that-false. Baseless reports are true, but they don't have enough evidence behind them. This is why so many sexual predators stay out of the court system, and why ScaleSafe Blacklist looks at more than just the registries when adding a predator to the blacklist. We do not take it lightly to add a name to the blacklist, to ensure we maintain ethos and credibility. Want to read more? The NSRVC has written this pamphlet about false reports.
